Senior Software Engineer - Payments

Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Payments Developer to join our growing engineering team. This role is critical in building and scaling our payments infrastructure while ensuring the highest standards of security and compliance. You will architect, develop, and maintain mission-critical payment systems that handle millions of transactions while adhering to strict PCI DSS compliance requirements. Key Responsibilities Payments Architecture & Development • Design and implement scalable, secure payment processing systems and APIs • Build and maintain PCI DSS compliant architecture and data handling processes • Develop robust payment workflows including authorization, capture, settlement, and reconciliation • Implement real-time payment monitoring and fraud detection systems Core Payment Functions • Payment Onboarding: Design merchant and customer onboarding flows with KYC/AML compliance • Payment Method Capture: Build secure tokenization and payment method storage systems • Payment Reconciliation: Develop automated reconciliation processes for payment networks and banking partners • Payout Systems: Create efficient payout mechanisms for marketplace and platform businesses • Dispute Resolution: Build comprehensive chargeback and dispute management workflows Technical Leadership • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define payment product requirements • Conduct code reviews and mentor junior developers on payments best practices • Stay current with payment industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies • Implement AI-powered solutions for fraud prevention, risk assessment, and payment optimization Required Qualifications Technical Expertise • 7+ years of software development experience with 3+ years specifically in payments • Deep understanding of PCI DSS compliance requirements and implementation • Proficiency in modern programming languages: Python, Node.js, Ruby on Rails • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) • Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and event-driven systems Payments Domain Knowledge • Hands-on experience with payment processors (Stripe, Adyen, PayPal, etc.) • Understanding of payment networks (Visa, Mastercard, ACH) • Knowledge of payment security standards (PCI DSS, PA-DSS, tokenization, encryption) • Experience with payment reconciliation, settlement processes, and financial reporting • Familiarity with regulatory requirements (PSD2, KYC, AML, GDPR) AI and Modern Technology • Experience integrating AI/ML models for fraud detection, risk scoring, or payment optimization • Knowledge of modern frameworks: React, TypeScript, or similar • Proficiency with databases: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis for high-performance applications • Experience with message queues and streaming: Kafka, RabbitMQ Soft Skills • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail • Excellent communication skills for technical and business stakeholders • Ability to work in fast-paced, agile environments • Experience with incident response and on-call responsibilities Preferred Qualifications • Background in fintech, banking, or financial services • Certifications in cloud platforms or security frameworks • Experience with real-time payment systems (FedNow, RTP, Faster Payments) • Familiarity with open banking APIs and embedded finance What We Offer • Competitive salary and equity package • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance • Flexible working arrangements and remote work options • Cutting-edge technology stack and tools • Opportunity to work on high-impact payment solutions • Collaborative and inclusive team environment Technical Stack • Languages: Python, Go, TypeScript, RoR • Frameworks: FastAPI, React, Node.js • Databases: PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB • Cloud: AWS with Kubernetes • Payments: Stripe, Adyen, PayPal APIs • AI/ML: TensorFlow, PyTorch for fraud detection • Monitoring: DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana
